NURATRUE review: ‘Quality, comfort and bang for buck’

NURATRUE is the latest innovation from Australian-based audio company NURA.

The manufacturer’s products are unique in the way they allow the user to experience a unique sound profile catered to their ears.

NURATRUE is the third entry into the market and probably the most anticipated yet, as it marks a long-awaited entry into the wireless earbud market.

Design

The NURATRUE has active noise cancellation with the ability to enable Social Mode in order to interact with your surroundings.

While I found the noise cancellation to be effective, I found that some atmospheric sound did make its way through, especially in loud environments like city streets.

I would estimate that NURATRUE blocks out around 90 per cent of sound when noise cancellation is activated.

Sometimes I find full noise cancellation to be overwhelming, so for me this was enough coverage for most sound to be blocked out with a bit of breathing room at the top end.

If you are someone who prefers an absolute cancellation of all sound, these may not be the earphones for you.

The earbuds are coated in a sweat resistant material which ensures the NURATRUE stays in your ear with little movement.

NURATRUE has IPX 4 water resistance, meaning water splashes from any direction won’t get into the device and cause damage.

This makes them ideal for all types of use, from exercising to leisure.

There are rubber wing attachments on each earphone which rest on the base of your ear canal to allow a comfortable and secure fit.

NURATRUE will automatically detect when you take one of earphones out of your ears and will stop any media that is playing in order to preserve battery life.

There are customisable touch controls on the exterior of the earphones that can be assigned to various functions including changing songs, answering calls and toggling the noise cancellation setting.

You are also able to configure functions such as adjusting volume, activating your phone’s voice assistant, or toggling immersion.

The earphones fit comfortably inside the ear and it isn’t difficult to secure a proper fit. In the event you aren’t forming a seal between your ear and NURATRUE, you will be notified with prompts in the application to achieve the desired fit.

The earbuds come with rubber tips in four sizes and a pair of foam tips for more noise cancellation, along with two sizes of the wings to keep them in place.

Sound quality

NURATRUE delivers a custom audio profile unique to the user, as seen in the company’s two previous devices.

When first setting up your profile, the earphones transmit frequencies to measure how your ears hear sounds.

Once this process is complete, you are presented with a sound profile custom made to suit your hearing, allowing you to hear intricacies in the music you might not notice when using other earphones.

NURATRUE may be small, but it packs a serious punch

The dynamic range produced from the NURATRUE is broad with great depth.

NURA’s Immersion mode allows you to simulate the experience of a live music setting with deep bass and a strong presence in the middle and high end.

You are able to adjust this setting along with others in the NURA companion application available for iOS and Android.

Battery life

NURATRUE can be used for six hours continuously with a 24 hour battery life from the fast-charging case.

You can charge the earbuds three times before needing to recharge the case, which is then charged through a USB-C port.

NURA’s two previous headphones were charged with proprietary connectors so it’s good to see the inclusion of a universal connector in the NURATRUE.

The earphones take around two hours to fully charge in the case, with the case itself taking around two-and-a-half hours to fully charge.

Price

NURATRUE retails for $A300 – you can purchase them here.

When considering similarly priced players in the wireless headphone market at this price point, NURATRUE leaves them in the dust in terms of sound quality, comfort and bang for buck.

The differences in sound between NURATRUE and its competitors are clear, specifically in the way that they deliver an individually catered sound profile for the user.

At this price point, the NURATRUE obliterates its competition.

What we think

NURATRUE fits comfortably in the ears and the sound is perfect.

They aren’t the easiest earphones to review as the experience the sound delivers is unique to the eye of the beholder.

The most accurate description of the sound that NURATRUE produces is that feeling of listening to your favourite artists in the flesh.

It’s music heard the way that the creator intended you to hear it.

The noise cancellation doesn’t block out all atmospheric sound, while it’s more noticeable in certain environments it may bother those who are sticklers for a pure noise cancellation.
